Looks like HKS has been busy adapting some of their more generic parts for use on the Genesis Coupe: Blow Off Valve, Coilovers, Grounding Kit, Intake, Oil Cap, Intercooler, Oil Cooler and Exhaust.  Nice!

No Yo-Yo, Smashing Pumpkins New Song FOL for Gen Coupe Ad

Posted by Tom | Uncategorized | Thursday 29 January 2009 3:10 pm

From AdvertisingAge

Weeks ago, Hyundai and Goodby revealed to Billboard that they had a Super Bowl spot this year featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma. But a selection from his “Bach’s Cello Suites Nos. 1, 5 & 6″ recording seemed destined to go unnoticed by the guacamole-swilling masses, just as the John Williams piece at President Obama’s inauguration might have too, had it not been for the revelation that it was pre-recorded.

Now, however, it appears that the South Korean automaker has made a last-minute substitution: an iteration of the campaign with a newly composed track “FOL” by Smashing Pumpkins members will be featured in an ad immediately before kick-off. Lead singer/guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin put it together, and, from the looks of it, the rest of the band was not involved. A press release dated yesterday says that the Yo-Yo Ma spot — featuring Bach’s “Gigue” from his Suite No. 3 in C Major — will now run “in the coming weeks.” In a previous release, the company stated that Yo-Yo Ma’s spot would be followed by another later in the game that would feature an unnamed “second musical talent.”

Smashing Pumpkins Scores Soundtrack for New Sport Coupe Introduction

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Hyundai Motor America enlisted Smashing Pumpkins lead singerBilly Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin to provide a rock soundtrack befitting the all-new Genesis Coupe in its debut national advertising campaign. The Smashing Pumpkins band members and cellist Yo-Yo Ma will each perform songs to accompany uniquely edited 30-second spots, tailored to their brand of music by editor Hank Corwin. Hyundai selected the Smashing Pumpkins spot to be featured immediately before the kick off of Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, February 1, 2009. Hyundai has a total of five 30-second spots – three during NBC’s “Kick-Off Show” and two in-game spots during the Super Bowl broadcast. The Yo-Yo Ma version will debut in the coming weeks.

The two spots share the same theme, “The Epic Lap,” but each offers a distinct perspective of Hyundai’s newest offering to highlight both its fluid design and track-worthy performance. Precision driving performed by Rhys Millen, a Pike’s Peak world record holder, Formula-D champion and professional driver, is choreographed to music performed by both artists.

Smashing Pumpkins scored a new track titled “FOL,” to serve as the soundtrack for its version of “The Epic Lap.” Yo-Yo Ma’s version will feature a beautiful solo of “Gigue” from Bach’s Suite No. 3 in C Major.

“The combination of Hyundai’s exciting new Genesis Coupe matched with music performed by Smashing Pumpkins offers the perfect ‘kick-off’ to Super Bowl advertising,” said Joel Ewanick, vice president, Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “From rock to classical, our Genesis Coupe ads demonstrate the two personalities of the car, which was designed for all types of driving enthusiasts.”

Genesis Coupe follows in the footsteps of the recently named “2009 North American Car of the Year” Genesis sedan, sharing its rear-wheel drive architecture and independent rear suspension sure to appeal to true driving enthusiasts. The Genesis Coupe offers a 30-mpg, 2.0-liter model with a low-pressure intercooled four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 210 horsepower, and a 3.8-liter V6 Track model with 306 horsepower and massive Brembo brakes.

Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe ads were shot at Road Atlanta in northeast Georgia and feature racecar driver Millen testing the upper limits of the car’s awesome abilities on the 2.54-mile, 12-turn world class road course.

“The Epic Lap” was created by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. Hyundai will also offer consumers an opportunity to edit their own version of “The Epic Lap” at www.EditYourOwn.com, which can be posted to social networking sites and shared with friends.

Genesis Coupe Superbowl Ad Details

Motorauthority has the scoop on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe Superbowl ad

Hyundai will debut its 2010 Genesis Coupe in the U.S. during Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, February 1, next year. The carmaker will use a pair of 30 second television commercials designed to highlight the performance potential of the 310hp Genesis Coupe and help build hype for the car

In the first spot, scheduled to air in the first half of the game, championship winning driver Rhys Millen, famous for his drifting prowess and his Pike’s Peak world record, will use the Genesis Coupe to perform precision driving moves choreographed to the musical stylings of Yo-Yo Mama. The second spot will use re-edited precision driving footage matched to a completely different soundtrack to further highlight Hyundai’s theme for the commercials of ‘The Epic Lap’.

The commercials will see Millen navigate the 2.54-mile, 12-turn race track at Road Atlanta in Northeast Georgia to the tune of Bach’s “Cello Suite #3 in C, Gigue” performed by Yo-Yo Ma. Both versions of the advertisement will air again during the Academy Awards next year, as well as during other special events. Additionally Hyundai will also host an online contest asking consumers to edit their own version of ‘The Epic Lap’.

According to a May report from the Wall Street Journal, a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl in 2009 will cost advertisers at least $3 million – meaning that Hyundai is spending $6 million for one minute of advertising for its Genesis Coupe sports car. Other campaigns to promote the Hyundai Genesis Coupe include a number of tuner-specials for the car that were shown at SEMA, including one developed alongside Millen himself.
